Genova

The Genova was a cargo ship built in 1904 in England.
She was sunk on July 27, 1917 in front of the bay of Paraggi by a German submarine that hit it with torpedoes on the left side of the bow, while transporting war material from Genoa to La Spezia.
Fortunately there was only one victim, a sailor who was near the place where the explosion occurred. The ship sank within 8 hours.
The cargo was recovered between the two wars but unfortunately during these operations a diver lost his life.
The ship measures 103.75 meters long by 14.63 meters wide with a gross tonnage of 3,486 tons, two boilers and a propeller.
The wreck lies in navigation position on a depth of about 60 meters in front of the port of Portofino, with the bow facing east and is intact along its entire length, with the three castles rising up to about 48 meters deep.
Visibility is very variable due to the bottom currents that cross this part of the gulf.
The bow is very impressive and impressive, inside you can see what remains of the crew quarters.
At a depth of 54 meters. from the bow hold, which has two large openings, one arrives at the keep structures, the most damaged area. At the stern of the funnel of which a stump remains, it is possible to see the two large boilers through a hole.
Beyond the engine room we meet the loading cranes between the two openings in the aft hold, inside which lies an imposing propeller camouflaged in the mud.
Along the hull there are numerous portholes that reach the stern where you can admire the gigantic rudder and the propeller covered by mud at the level of the shaft.
